Amritsar, October 13

The city police have confiscated a huge quantity of concentrated alcohol, pilfered from a liquor distillery, and arrested three persons in this connection.

The concentrated liquor is further diluted to sell it in the slum areas. Those arrested were identified as Baldev Singh and Sawinder Singh, both residents of Lalka village, and Karan Singh of Chhapa Ram Singh on Mehta Road here.

Charanjit Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (City-I) said that following a tip-off, the police intercepted a motorcyclist, later identified as Baldev Singh. In the meantime, a police team intercepted a car carrying five cans, containing 35 litres of concentrated alcohol each. The occupants of the car were later identified as Sawinder and Karan Singh.

After their interrogation, the police raided a junk dealer’s godown on the Lakha Singh plot at Sultanwind village from where it confiscated 17 drums containing 200 litres (a total of 3,575 litres) of concentrated alcohol each.

According to the police, the accused used to sell alcohol by diluting it with water. However, consumption of such liquor is injurious to health or sometimes it proves fatal for the consumer. The accused used to sell this liquor in the slum areas in and around the city. Police officials said they were trying to bust the nexus and know as to how they managed to pilfer the alcohol meant for industrial purposes.
