4 killed in separate mishaps

Amritsar, June 16

A man and his eight-year-old daughter were killed while his wife escaped narrowly in a road mishap near the Talwandi Ghumman bus stand on the Amritsar–Pathankot highway here on Saturday. They were on a bicycle when a truck hit them.

The driver, who tried to slip away from the spot, was caught by onlookers after a brief chase. He was handed over to the Kathunangal police where a case was registered against him. The deceased have been identified as Shinder Singh (35) and Muskan (8). He is survived by his wife and two children.

Amanjit Singh, investigating officer, said Shinder along with his wife Rano and daughter Muskan was returning home after meeting his sister at Mughoshahi village. When the victims turned towards Tahli Sahib road, a truck (PB-35-N-9116) ran over the deceased. Rano, who was riding pillion, escaped unhurt while Shinder and Muskan died on the spot. He said Shinder Singh used to work as labourer.

Hit-and-run deaths

Meanwhile, two unknown persons lost their lives in separate hit and run cases on Friday.

An unknown person was found dead near Chhapa Ram Singh village. Gurbhej Singh, a resident of Dudhala village, who works as a driver for 108 ambulance service, told the police that received a call that a man had met with an accident and he was lying near Chhapa Ram Singh village petrol pump. Upon reaching there, he found the victim critically injured. He took him to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital where he was declared dead. Passersby said that unknown vehicle hit him and fled, he added.

The police have registered a case.

In another incident, an apparent migrant was found dead near Delhi Public School at Manawala on the national highway. Major Singh of Rajewal village stated to the police that he had gone to visit his fields where he found an unknown person (in his mid forties) dead. The case appears to be hit and run. The police are investigating the case.
