The Aadhaar correction and modification service, started at the local General Post Office (GPO) a few months ago, is getting a good response, say officials. However, the Post Shoppe here has been shut with the initiation of the Aadhaar services here.

The Department of Posts had to replace the Post Shoppe with the Aadhaar centre. The Post Shoppe had a number of items, related to post services and stationery, for sale. There have been about 600 modifications done since the inception of the service.

In order to avail the services, one has to fill in a form with his or her details, and submit at the counter next to the defunct Post Shoppe. So far 15-20 residents are visiting the place. The service is available at a low cost. Unique identification number holders can apply for correction or updation of their details, such as name, address and contact number.

Vijay Kumar, senior post master at the General Post Office (head office), said, “These are policy matters. I cannot comment on it. It has been shut and we have opened the Aadhar services here. We are getting good response. Such centres have been installed at all post offices under our jurisdiction.”

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the India Post for such services.
