AAP takes stand on Kasur Drain

The volunteers of the Aam Admi Party (AAP) have taken a serious note against the foul smell due to the polluted sewer poured in the local Kasur Drain (nullha) near the local Civil Hospital.

The volunteers of the Aam Admi Party (AAP) have taken a serious note against the foul smell due to the polluted sewer poured in the local Kasur Drain (nullha) near the local Civil Hospital. The party said it was meant for the drainage of rain water only.

Kashmir Singh Sohal, state leader of the party, staged a dharna and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and demanded to stop sewer water in the drain. 

Dr Sohal said the stagnant polluted water in the drain likely to cause serious health problems to the people residing adjoining the drain. He further added it was also a reason for polluting the environment and chronic diseases. He added that it had made the ground water contaminated also. He said the matter was brought to the notice of the State Human Rights Commission and instructions were issued to the local authorities but nothing has been done so far in the past years. He demanded that the Sewerage Treatment Plants (STP’s) must be installed for the treatment of sewerage water before putting it into the drain to save environment.

55,000 units of blood served

The Patti-based Bhagat Pooran Singh Blood donation Society has created a golden history by serving the humanity in the kinds of donating blood for the needy. The Society was established in April, 1994, and has the record of donating 55,000 units of blood till now.

The Punjab Government has honoured the society six times at functions organised at different places for its services towards society regardless caste, creed and religion.

The society was started with mere 17 members who at the time of forming organisation pledged to donate blood regularly throughout their lives. The society has the honour to enrol more than 100 members now.

Vinod Kumar Sharma (50), president of the society has donated blood for 74 times. As many as 35 members of the society have donated blood for more than 50 times. The society never collects funds from the residents to run the activities. The members of the society not only donate blood but donate fund for the smooth functioning of the society.

District level science exhibition held

Students of the local Government Senior Secondary School bagged the overall trophy of the two-day district level science exhibiting organised at the school. The exhibition was organised on the instructions of the State Education Research and Training Institute in which teams of the students from 64 different schools of the three sub-divisions of the district participated.

The students exhibited 115 models in the exhibition. Tejinder Singh, District Science Supervision, said the Guru Ram Das Senior Secondary School, Goindwal Sahib and the local Sri Guru Arjun Dev Government Girls Senior Secondary school held the second and the third position respectively. In the Teachers Teaching Aide Material competition Ranjit Singh (Satluj Public School,Thakarpura), Bhupinder Singh (local Government Senior Secondary School) and Rajwinder Kaur (GHS Daleke) won the first, second and the third position respectively.

The District Education Officer (S), Nirmal Singh, inaugurated the exhibition. The ADC (General), Sandeep Rishi, gave away prizes to the winners. Paramjit Singh, Deputy DEO (S), Reeta Gill principal of the host school were among the others who addressed on the occasion.
