Two weeks after the brutal killing of suspended policeman and notorious gangster Shubham Singh’s father Baljinder Singh Kalu, the Amritsar (Rural) police arrested the prime accused and his accomplices following a brief encounter that took place at Hariya village.
Those arrested include Simarjit Singh alias Bablu (27) of Sandhu Colony on Majitha road, Jaskarn Singh alias Janti (22) of Tung Bala, Sunny Dhawan (27) of Gopal Nagar and Rohit Kumar (20) of Jandiala Guru.
The police have recovered four weapons, including a US-made .32 bore pistol from their possession.
Besides, a Verna car and two bikes were also confiscated from the spot.
Kalu was shot dead in Friends Colony on October 5. The armed assailants had pumped in several bullets and the victim died on the spot.
Simarjit Singh had killed Kalu to avenge the death of his father Hardev Singh, a tavern owner, who was shot dead by Shubham in July last year.
Kalu was under suspension after registration of several criminal cases against him, informed the police.
Terming it a major success, IG (Border range) SPS Parmar said the rural police received a tip-off that notorious gangsters were living at the residence of Balwinder Singh in Hariya village.
Police teams from Majitha, Kathunangal, Beas and CIA staff reached the spot and surrounded the house.
When the police knocked at the door, they came under heavy fire from the accused.
After brief exchange of fire, the police teams nabbed the accused.
Simarjit is involved in at least three attempt to murder cases, two robberies and a gang-war against him.
Jaskarn was wanted in a murder case while Sunny Dhawan has a murder and attempt to murder case registered in his name.
