AMRITSAR: Civil Lines police officials have registered a case against an assistant engineer of Amritsar Development Authority (ADA) for allegedly causing a loss to government treasury to the tune of Rs 10 lakh.

Civil Lines police officials have registered a case against an assistant engineer of Amritsar Development Authority (ADA) for allegedly causing a loss to government treasury to the tune of Rs 10 lakh.

The case was registered following the written complaint by Development Authority Officer Tejinder Pal Singh Sandhu. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Surinder Bansal would investigate the case.

According to information, assistant engineer Naresh Kumar along with another accused, Nikhil Kumar, issued no objection certificates (NOC) to the owners of several buildings without taking requisite permission from his higher-ups, thereby causing losses to the tune of Rs 9.92 lakh to the state exchequer.

The police have registered a case under Sections 409, 420, 466, 467, 468, 471, 167 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Besides, Sections 7 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act have also been slapped.

When contacted, Assistant Commissioner of Police Surinder Bansal said he had received the file after registration of the case but was yet to go through it. Necessary action will be taken, he said.
