Two more cases of fake job were reported to the MC office here yesterday. Two persons, Sandip and Satyam, who claim to have been working as clerks for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan wing of the MC for the past three months, yesterday came to know that they were never appointed.

A Class IV employee of the MC, deputed in the property tax branch, is said to have duped them by making a fake email id of a woman employee of the corporation. The victims, prior to their so-called appointments, had sent their documents to that email id. The Class IV employee in question is said to have taken over Rs 1 lakh each. The incident came to light when the victims approached the woman and demanded the release of their salaries. The woman was shocked to know about it and approached MC Commissioner Sonali Giri to apprise her about the issue.

The victims claimed that they had sent their details to a woman employee of the MC through an e-mail and paid a Class IV employee, deputed in the property tax branch of the civic body, more than Rs 1 lakh each to get the jobs.

When the officials verified the claims of the complaints, they found that the Class IV employee had duped them by creating a fake e-mail ID on the name of the woman.

Giri has asked the victims to give their complaint in writing and also file a police complaint against the Class IV employee.

The employee, said to be behind all this, has already been facing several charges and the MC is about to take action against him. The victims alleged that he had introduced himself as an official of the MC and took more than Rs 1 lakh each to get them contractual jobs. No formal complaint has been lodged to the police till date.

The MC office has become a safe haven for fraudsters offering jobs to gullible youths. Two separate cases of job scams have been reported in the past couple of months. Swindlers made lakhs of rupees from over 100 unemployed aspirants on the pretext of getting them jobs in various departments of the MC in both cases.

Earlier, a fake job scam had surfaced on May 21, 2017 when some victims, who claimed to have been recruited to the post of gardeners in the Horticulture Department of the MC in 2016, approached higher officials. They had been working in various gardens of the MC. They approached higher officials of the MC when they didn’t receive their salary. When they discussed the issue with them, the then Joint Commissioner of the MC told them that no recruitment had been made by the civic body.
