Amritsar: The Panther Division of the Army organised an exhibition themed Know Your Forces at the old cantonment area on Thursday.



Amritsar: The Panther Division of the Army organised an exhibition themed Know Your Forces at the old cantonment area on Thursday. General Officer Commanding, Panther Division, Major General DK Nautiyal too visited the venue and interacted with veterans, veer naris, students and NCC cadets. He said the exhibition was held to showcase various weapons and equipment of the Army, and more importantly to motivate the youth for choosing this extraordinary career. The event witnessed a huge gathering of veterans, civil dignitaries, and students from schools, colleges and NCC cadets.

Two arrested with heroin

The Rambagh police have arrested Ranjit Singh alias Fauji of Dashmesh Nagar and Kuldeep Singh of Jaura Phatak for allegedly possession 7-gm heroin. A case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 under the NDPS Act has been registered against them. Further investigations were on to ascertain the source of the contraband, the police said.

Gambler nabbed

The anti-gambling staff have nabbed Heera Singh of Mahal village on charges of gambling. The police recovered Rs 1,310. The police said the accused was being interrogated.

Bike stolen

Davinder Singh, a local resident, has complained to the police that his bike has been stolen. In his coplaint to the Cantonment police, he mentioned that his motorcycle was parked outside a readymade garment store which was stolen by unknown persons. A case has been registered, the police said.

GNDU VC selection under way

The process to elect new Vice Challencor of Guru Nanak Dev University is under way. The candidates for Punjabi University have been interviewed. Out of 20 academicians from the GNDU, four have been shortlisted for the interview to be held in Chandigarh, sources said.
