Dharamvir Singh, who was critically injured after a group of persons had attacked him and his two sons at Tahliwala Bazaar on Sultanwind road here on Saturday, succumbed to his injuries in the late night hours. His son Gagandeep was killed on the clash spot.

According to the police, he had sustained a head injury which proved fatal for him. From the Civil Hospital, he was referred to the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital and from there to a private hospital after his health deteriorated.

The assault took place over a petty issue of repairing or replacing a dysfunctional set-top box.

Complainant Rocky, brother of deceased Gagandeep, stated to the police that the latter worked with Fastway cable operator Mehnga Singh at Tahliwala Bazaar. He along with Jaspal Singh were present at the shop when the accused came and started using unparliamentary language. He said his brother Gagandeep Singh, Simranjit Singh and his father Dharamvir Singh also came to the shop as they were known to the accused and tried to pacify them.

He alleged that the accused had a verbal duel and attacked them with sharp-edge weapons, scissors and bricks. Gagandeep was stabbed multiple times and he died on the spot. Rocky along with his father Dharamvir Singh were injured.

ADCP JS Walia said raids were on to arrest the culprits. Police teams were dispatched to Tarn Taran and other nearby districts to arrest the accused who had been on run since the incident.
