Amritsar, June 13

Lok Sabha MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla on Wednesday started a plantation drive at Mudhal village, adopted by him under the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY).

The MP was in the village to attend a farmer training camp. The camp was attended by 50 farmers from the village. The camp was organised with assistance of Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Dalbir Singh Chhinna and Dr Chandra Shekhar, Junior Scientific Officer, Regional Centre of Organic Farming, Panchkula.

Aujla distributed 500 saplings among the villagers. He also motivated the farmers to plant at least 10 plants each at their tube wells to increase the green cover. Farmers should create tree groves at their tube wells so that the forest cover of Punjab gets revived and help fight pollution, global warming and climatic deterioration. The scheme to create tree groves at tube wells have been discussed with the district administration and it would be replicated in other villages, he added.

Aujla said he also instructed the BSNL to provide the village with free WiFi facility. He said that the Deputy GM of the BSNL, Amritsar circle, would get approval under the SAGY to install the set up in the village.

At Civil Surgeon’s office

A plantation drive was organised at the Civil Surgeon office during which saplings of trees for medicinal use were planted on Wednesday. Civil Surgeon Dr Hardeep Singh Ghai said saplings would be planted at all health centres in the district. Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr Kirandeep Kaur, District Family Welfare Officer Dr Sukhpal Singh among others were present.
