Amritsar: Expressing concern over the repeated blank calls received at the police control room number 100, the Police Commissioner, SS Srivastava, has appealed to the people to not indulge in such things, as it leads to undue hassle for the policemen.



Amritsar: Expressing concern over the repeated blank calls received at the police control room number 100, the Police Commissioner, SS Srivastava, has appealed to the people to not indulge in such things, as it leads to undue hassle for the policemen. Srivastava said it had been observed that a number of times people did not respond after calling at the police control room number and sometimes they handed over the phone to children. Sometimes, they repeatedly gave missed calls at the police control room. He said due to this, the emergency number remained busy and people who needed police help could not get it on time. He warned that in case anybody misused the number or repeatedly made blank calls, appropriate action would be taken against him. The number of blank calls at 100 has been on the rise. TNS

Proclaimed offenders nabbed

The Amritsar rural police have arrested two proclaimed offenders (POs), identified as Sanjiv Kumar of Mian Pandher village and Gurshab Singh of Jania village. They were declared POs by the local courts in November and August last year. They were earlier arrested by the police on charges of possessing narcotics. TNS

Sewermen seek regular jobs

Amritsar: As many as 176 sewermen of the MC gathered at the camp office of Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and demanded job regularisation here on Friday. They said they had been working as daily wagers for over a decade, but their services were not regularised. Harpal Singh, one of the sewermen, said, “The MC had approved job regularisation for us at a meeting of the House on November 5 last year. The government had also issued the letter, acceding to our demands on December 30, 2016. But the election code of conducted was imposed and the MC did not give us appointment letters.” TNS

Kirtan organised

Sukhmani Sahib Sewa Society celebrated its 50th anniversary. Society members, led by Bhai Gurdeep Singh Saluja, held a kirtan programme at Gurdwara Kaulsar Sahib. A medical camp was held in which 200 volunteers promised to donate eyes and equal number of units of blood were donated. TNS

150 examined at ortho camp

Around 150 patients availed the services of a free camp organised by Max Elite Institute of Orthopedics at Nayyar Hospital on Saturday. A team of orthopedic surgeons, headed by Dr Manuj Wadhwa, including Dr Dhruv Vasisht and Dr Ashok Sharma, attended the patients. Consultations and checkups, including diagnostic services like bone mass densitometry tests and consultation along with knee, hip replacements and implants counselling were provided free of cost during the camp. Dr Wadhwa said contrary to the misconception that arthritis only affected elderly, this disorder was increasingly found in the young population. TNS
