An employee of the Municipal Corporation (MC), Jaspal Singh, was found dead in Chheharta Naraingarh area here today.

A resident of Kolowal village in Ajnala, he was missing for the past two days. His family had lodged a missing complaint with the police.

J Elanchezian, SSP, Amritsar rural, said, “His body was badly decomposed, so preliminary investigation by police couldn’t ascertain the cause of death. Therefore a medical board has been constituted to conduct the autopsy. A murder case has been registered on the complaint of the family members of the deceased.”

Earlier, the police initiated action under criminal procedure code. It has been learnt that the arms of the deceased were badly mutilated by stray dogs. Area residents went to the spot after foul smell started emanating from the body and informed the police.

Deceased’s brother Harpal Singh said Jaspal went to his office on Monday but did not return. “All efforts to trace him proved futile. The police informed us today about the incident,” he said.

A case under Sections 302, 201 and 120-B of the IPC has been registered against unknown persons.
