Amritsar, February 13

The district administration has launched a campaign to create dental hygiene awareness among students of government schools.

Under the campaign, dentists and their teams will be visiting the institutes to conduct health camps, ensure proper treatments and create awareness about basic dental care.

Citing the need for basic awareness, Dr Sharanjit Kaur Sidhu, deputy director-cum-district dental health officer, said, “It has been observed that the students of most government schools belong to lower strata of society and they lack fundamental knowledge about dental care as basic as using a personal tooth brush. We shall be creating awareness and also check them.”

What makes the campaign unique is its follow-up and free treatment at the hospitals under the state governements health and family welfare department. “We have conducted various camps in most of the block and sub-divisions of the district,” she added.

As per the plan, the students will be shown audio-visual presentations in Punjabi about dental care and various kinds of dental diseases. Later, their teeths will be examined and they will be informed about the treatments available at the hospitals. The teams will also keep a track on the treatment being provided to the students.

Deputy Commissioner, Kamaldeep Singh Sangha said, “Though dental care is important for all of us, the campaign is aimed at people who are unable to get any kind of dental care. We are more particular about the follow-up sessions. If our kids are healthy, everything is healthy. These students shall be informed about dental care and the treatment provided to them. I will be conducting a meeting with principals of the schools.”
