Cascade School of Skill Development (CSSD), Loharka Road, Amritsar, organised its second monthly exchange of ideas and opinions called ‘Cascade Conversations’. This was a conversation with Professor SS Sohal from GNDU on ‘Indian Middle Class in the Age of Globalisation’.

The first conversation was held with Professor Mario I Aguilar (who happens to be the official biographer of Pope Francis and a veteran professor at the University of St Andrews) on Inter-Faith Dialogue that has reached a culmination as CSSD becomes a signee of the St. Andrew’s Declaration of Shared Humanity to be held in Scotland in September this year.

The St Andrews declaration is expected to be attended by the Pope, President of the European Parliament, Canadian Prime Minister, and representatives from most European countries and the Indian High Commissioner to the UK. Cascade will be representing itself and India as an educational institution that aims at shaping well rounded individuals.

“The conversation with professor Sohal from Guru Nanak Dev University produced a vibrant debate among the intelligentsia in attendance on ideas of climate change, roles and responsibilities of the government, historical background of middle class in India, ongoing legislation in Indian politics and the overwhelming lack of initiative from the ever shrinking and ever expanding middle class in India.

The interaction travelled in ideas from Marxism to responsible capitalism and ended on the ideals of humanism,” said Ramesh Babu, convener of the event.
