Amritsar: A Class X student of DAV Public School, Lawrence Road, has made the city proud as a story penned by her was selected for publishing in a story book planned by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for children. The student, Kavya Bhagat, was facilitated by CBSE officials during ‘Katha Utsav’, a workshop to select stories for the book in New Delhi, recently. As many as 200 schoolchildren from across the country along with few from neighbouring countries attended the final workshop. Kavya said the stories were first screened at the school and later, at the regional level, before these were shortlisted for the national workshop. She said, “I have been encouraged by my parents to pen my thoughts since early childhood.” School Principal, Dr Neera Sharma, said only two dozen stories penned by young writers would be published in the book. She said, “Kavya has made DAV institutions and the holy city proud with her achievement.”

German professor addresses DAV students

A mathematician from Germany, Prof Dr Gunter Leugering, addressed students of DAV Public School here on Wednesday. He talked about importance of mathematics as a subject in building a bright future. He motivated students to take up mathematics as it was not only needed for sciences, but also provided access to other undergraduate courses. He stressed that in today’s world of rapid change, particularly in terms of technological alteration, the demand for mathematical skills was increasing. He encouraged students to take interest in the subject as it would enhance their overall logical and analytical skills. School Principal, Dr Neera Sharma, thanked Prof Gunter for inspiring students. She said it was usually seen that students had a phobia for mathematics. “So, now the subject is dealt in an interesting way in classes,” she added. She also encouraged students to take the subject seriously. — TNS
