City boy secures fifth rank in NTSE Punjab, first in dist

Amritsar: A local student, Gurnoor Singh, secured first rank in the district in the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE), besides bagging fifth rank in the state. Results for the examination held in November last year were declared recently.

Amritsar: A local student, Gurnoor Singh, secured first rank in the district in the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE), besides bagging fifth rank in the state. Results for the examination held in November last year were declared recently. Fifteen-year-old Gurnoor is a Class X student of Delhi Public School. He aspires to be an engineer. He scored a total 137 marks in the NTSE. “The exam was based on the board syllabus. I usually study for two to three hours a day. During last few days I scaled it up to seven to eight hours per day,” said Gurnoor. Presently, he is focusing on preparing for the upcoming board examinations.

Workshop on use of fire extinguisher

The Department of Zoology of DAV College organised a workshop on “Using portable fire extinguisher” in case of laboratory blaze-related accident here today. The objective of the event was to educate faculty members, science students and the lab staff about the usage of portable fire extinguishers at the time of sudden accidents. Principal of the college, Dr Rajesh Kumar, appreciated efforts of the Zoology Department for organising such educational disaster management programme. Head, Department of Zoology, Dr Rajni Khanna, welcomed director, Unique Matters Pvt Ltd, Gursahib Singh, who was the keynote speaker on the occasion. He briefed those present on the occasion about different types of fire extinguishers. He also gave useful safety tips with live demonstration of different fire extinguishers. — TNS
