City girl shines in PSEB results

Simranjeet Kaur, a student of Navjot Modern Senior Secondary School here, has stood first in the district as she clinched 97.54 per cent with 634 marks, of 650. Her joy knew no bounds when she found her name on the merit list of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) results which were declared today.

The border district recorded 83.95 per cent pass percentage, ranking second in the state. Gurdaspur led the Majha region with a pass percentage of 89.97, followed by Amritsar, Tarn Taran (80.62) and Pathankot (76.42).

As many as 23 students have figured on the list of 379 meritorious students, making the district fourth across the state as Ludhiana, with 113 meritorious students, is placed at the top, followed by Patiala and Sangrur, with 52 and 27 students, respectively.

Rural students surpassed the pass percentage in the state with 27.58 per cent while the share of urban students was 20.28 per cent. Girl students were way ahead in pass percentage with 28.16 per cent while the boys had to content with 22.16 per cent.

As many as four students of Bhagat Puran Singh Adarsh Senior Secondary School, equal number of students from New Lawrence High School, three of DAV Senior Secondary School, two students each from Navjot Modern Senior Secondary School, Sacred Touch Public High School, Ambar Senior Secondary Public School and Prabhakar Senior Secondary School figured on the state merit list.

Besides, one student each from Ajit Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School, Guru Nanak Public Senior Secondary School, Chananke, and Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Senior Secondary School, Chung, also found place on the list.

An elated Simranjeet Kaur, who scored 97.54 per cent marks, says her father is a driver of a commercial vehicle and mother is a homemaker. Despite limited means, her parents contributed their best to let her focus on studies.

She is interested to pursue her further education in non-medical stream to make a career in teaching.

Her school principal Kamaljit Singh said the school would provide her senior secondary education and books free of cost. Charanpreet Kaur of Ajit Vidyalay secured 96.15 per cent with 625 marks out of 650. Principal Rama Mahajan felicitated her besides congratulating her teachers and parents.

Isha of Prabhakar Senior Secondary School stands fifth in the district, scoring 627 marks and Nitin Kumar (621 marks) too performed brilliantly. Principal Rajesh Prabhakar congratulated the staff and students for their success. Sweets were distributed among students.
