The Central Government has sanctioned five modular toilet cubicles for all constituencies in the city. According to health officials of the Municipal Corporation (MC), these would be installed by the end of this month.

In a recently conducted survey, the MC identified locations for the installation of toilets and urinals.

The modular toilet would be installed in all urban Assembly constituencies. The modular toilet cubicles are ready-made well furnished sets. The MC will install these at the recommended spots and water, sewerage and power connections would be made available to start the services.

Municipal Health Officer Raju Chowan said, “The Central Government has sanctioned various toilets to curb the practice of open defecation under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The installation will be done by the end of this month in all five urban constituencies. Almost 35 public toilets and several community toilets are being constructed.”

It is worth mentioning here that the MC had installed mobile toilets in the Company Garden six months ago, but without water and sewerage connection. Besides, a number of markets don’t have proper urinals. With the new public toilets, residents as well as shopkeepers would get relief.

Unavailability of public toilets at several public places have been a cause of concern for tourists.
