Amritsar, December 6

The Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union here today held a meeting and protested against the assignment of poll duties to faculty members of various colleges.

The union reasoned that as the semester exams in the colleges affiliated with Guru Nanak Dev University are going on, the poll duties would force the university to postpone exams.

The District President of Punjab and Chandigarh Teachers’ Union, Malkiat Singh, said, “The faculty representatives have met university officials and asked them to scrap exam duties of the teachers who have been assigned poll duties.”

He further said as the university has decided not to scrap exam duties, they have requested the officials to take up the matter with district administration and get an exemption from poll duties for college teachers. The association representatives said college teachers should not be assigned poll duties and they should be let free for education of the students.
