Cop thrashed, former sarpanch among 10 booked

AMRITSAR: A police Constable identified as Satnam Singh was allegedly thrashed by several persons when he was going to his duty at traffic staff on his motorcycle.

A police Constable identified as Satnam Singh was allegedly thrashed by several persons when he was going to his duty at traffic staff on his motorcycle.

Among those booked include former sarpanch of Fatehgarh Shukar Chak village Parminder Pal Singh, his sons and their seven unknown accomplices. A case under Sections 342, 353, 186, 506, 427, 148 and 149 of the IPC has been registered against the suspects. No arrests have been made so far.

In his complaint Satnam stated that when he reached near Mahraja Garden on the Majitha-Verka bypass road, a speeding white colour SUV hit him following which he fell down. Without any provocation, the accused came out of the vehicle and started thrashing him.

He alleged that the accused called more persons on the spot, who were armed with hockey sticks and baseball bats. He said the accused tore his uniform and ran away presuming him dead.

Passersby informed his family over phone following which his father and uncle got him admitted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, he added.

Satnam Singh, in charge, Majitha road bye pass police chowki, said raids were being conducted to nab the culprits, who were on the run.
