A couple demanded “mercy death” from the administration following police inaction here today. Jatinder Kaur and her husband Jaideep Singh, residents of Gali Boohar Wali, alleged that parents of Jaideep forcefully ousted them from their parental house with the help of the police.

Jatinder Kaur demanded to register a case against her father-in-law, mother-in-law and brother-in-law for demanding dowry, expelling them from house and robbing their valuables.

They also demanded to take action against the SHO, Police Division C, and three ASIs for forcefully expelling them from their home.

Today, Jatinder Kaur and Jaideep visited the Deputy Commissioner Office and the Police Commissioner Office to submit their demand for mercy death.

Jatinder Kaur said: “After expulsion from home, we are spending nights at the Golden Temple. Instead of providing justice, the police had been favouring my in-laws and were not taking action on my complaints.”

She said she got married with Jaideep on April 24, 2016, and her father gave gold jewellery and gifts in dowry beyond his capacity. After sometime, her in-laws allegedly started pressuring her to bring Rs 5 lakh from her parents. Later, a dispute over dowry turned ugly and her in-laws allegedly thrashed her during her pregnancy. Following the incident, Jatinder and Jaideep left their house at Gali Bohar Wali.

The family had another house at Guru Kirpa Colony, Tarn Taran Road. Jatinder and her husband started residing there on September 9, 2016. She alleged that her in-laws along with police officers reached there and ousted them from the house.

Then the couple again entered the same house on April 5, 2017.

Jatinder Kaur alleged that the police thrashed her and threatened to implicate her husband in a false drug case. Later, the police again expelled them from the house. Meanwhile, Harbans Singh, father of Jaideep, refuted the allegations of the couple and also demanded from the administration to save him from his son and his father-in-law.

Joginder Singh said: “I have disowned my son as he left the house willingly 10 days after his marriage. I have made property by working hard and my son has no legal right on it. It is a property dispute as he wanted to occupy my property illegally. My son and his wife had filed false reports at various police stations, including women cell, in the past. However, police inquiries found their allegations as false.

Now, he started a new drama to get attention.”

Joginder said: “Me and my wife are observing life threats from Jaideep, Jatinder and her father. I demand justice from the administration. Otherwise, I will jump from a high-storey building.”

The police officials also refuted the allegations of Jatinder.

Kawaljit Singh, ASI, said: “They have a dispute over property and Joginder had legally disowned his son. Recently, the family members had a verbal duel at their house in Guru Kirpa Colony. After a call was made to the Police Control Room, we visited the spot. We did not misbehave with anyone and were trying to reach a compromise between the family members but Jaideep did not come to the police station.
