Deputy Commissioner Kamaldeep Singh Sangha held a meeting with officials of various departments, including Education and Health, and exhorted them to conduct a session with teachers to encourage them to lift education level and teach students to maintain cleanliness.
He asked them to advise students and the staff during their visit to schools to maintain hygiene in their classrooms, kitchens, homes and on roads. He said students could bring tremendous change in society. He asked doctors to encourage students to brush at night and highlight benefits of maintaining oral hygiene.
He also took stock of various medical schemes, including family planning, prevention of malaria and dengue, working of ASHA workers, development of mobile medical units, Bhagat Puran Singh Health Insurance Scheme, cleaning of hospitals, drug programme, cancer control programme, and others.
Meanwhile, in another meeting with the education staff, Deputy Commissioner directed the DEO (Elementary) to arrange a session with teachers, headmaster and Principals to discuss measures to raise the education level in government schools.
He elaborated that the government appointed teachers on the basis of merit achieved in competitive examinations. Hence, the best human resource in teaching was with the government schools, he added.
He said only will was required to raise the education standards of students. He asked teachers to teach five new words to students in each subject daily. He also told them to keep toilets clean and instructed SDMs to frequently check the quality of mid-day meal being served in schools.
