Amritsar, March 29

Deputy Commissioner Kamaljit Singh Sangha today took over as the Chairman of the Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT) after Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu removed political heads of all improvement trusts in the state.

The outgoing Chairman of the trust, Suresh Mahajan, said he received the order and it was now up to the new Chairman to perform the affairs of the trust.

Immediately after the removal of chairmen of improvement trusts in the state, Congress leaders have started lobbying to secure the cash-rich bodies.

In the holy city, the Congress has a plenty of choice at hand this time, as its leaders had won 10 out of 11 Assembly constituencies of the border district. Of these, only one MLA, Navjot Singh Sidhu, has been adjusted in the ministry while nine others are awaiting an opportunity to secure a pie in the governance.

Apart from these, there are many other former Congress MLAs who did not contest the elections as per the directions of their high command and helped the party to avoid a split of votes due to rebels.
