Delimitation work to end before civic polls

AMRITSAR: A team of the Local Bodies Department, which was carrying out a survey for the delimitation of Municipal Corporation wards, has submitted its data to the head office of department in Chandigarh.

A team of the Local Bodies Department, which was carrying out a survey for the delimitation of Municipal Corporation wards, has submitted its data to the head office of department in Chandigarh. As per the officials, the team has now began its survey in Ludhiana for the delimination of wards.

The officials concerned will draw maps of the new wards, following which suggestions and objections will be sought. The work on the maps is expected to complete within two months.The tenure of the incumbent MC House will end on September 19. The Local Bodies Department has been trying to complete the delimitation work before the civic body elections.

Earlier, Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu had said that the elections to civic bodies would be conducted in July.

Mohinderpal Singh, in-charge of the delimitation team of the Local Bodies Department, said, “We have complied the data of the survey and the same has been submitted. Now, we are conducting surveys on other cities of Punjab. The map work will continue in Chandigarh. We will work as per the directions of department. If they want early completion of the work, we will deploy more staff.”

Rajkawalpreet Singh Lucky, Leader of the Opposition in the MC House, said, “The tenure of the MC House will end on September 19 .The government has decided delimitation of wards before the elections. The officials have enough time to complete the work.”

It is worth mentioning here that the number of wards will be increased from 65 to 70 after the delimitation. The MC jurisdiction will not be extended but the population of the city will be divided equally in 70 wards.
