The two-day seminar on “Bhai Veer Singh literature - present perspective” condcluded here today. The seminar was organised by Bhai Veer Singh Khoj Kendra under the aegis of Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) at Kalgidhar Auditorium here.

The theme of the seminar was related to the study of Bhai Veer Singh’s contribution as a literary scholar in the revived and renewed modern literature. The seminar was presided over by Dr Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala. The chief guest on the occasion was Tarlochan Singh (ex-Member of Parliament).

Before the seminar, guests visited the newly built Chief Khalsa Diwan office, conference hall and labs.

In the inaugural address, CKD president Charanjit Singh Chadha said Bhai Veer Singh was one of the principal promoters of Chief Khalsa Diwan. He said, “The CKD is committed to uplift Bhai Veer Singh Khoj Kendra in order to analyse his creative and scholarly pursuits.”

Dr Jaspal Singh inspired youth to associate themselves with their heritage and culture while throwing light on various aspects of Bhai Vir Singh’s personality. He said they would always remain attached with their hereditary roots if they studied history through the creations of Bhai Veer Singh. Dr Japal also mesmerized audience with his recital of Bhai Veer Singh’s poems with meanings.

Chief guest Tarlochan Singh also illustrated the importance of Bhai Vir Singh’s historical creativity in current time. The keynote speaker, Dr Sukhdev Singh Sirsa, also apprised the audience that Bhai Vir Singh, through his single-minded cultivation of Punjabi language, resolved the cultural dilemma, which the Sikhs faced at the times of the British rule.

Dr Harchand Singh Bedi also acknowledged Bhai Veer Singh as a major figure in the Sikh renaissance, who is remembered for his pioneering work in its several different genres.

Dr SP Singh highlighted aims and achievements of Bhai Veer Singh Khoj Kendra. A book titled “Bhai Veer Singh Sahit Darshan” written by Dr SP Singh and Dr Jasbir Singh Sabar was also released on the occasion. A vote of thanks was proposed by honorary secretary Narinder Singh Khurana.
