Amritsar, March 25

A musical programme highlighting the importance of saving the nature and adopting sustainable energy initiated the Earth hour celebrations of this year. With volunteers standing tall with nations across the globe, the city and its citizens vowed to switch off non-essential lights and focus on saving energy and water, recycling waste and living sustainable lives. The main event happened at Beant Singh Park in Ranjit Avenue.

Dilbir Foundation also made volunteers pledge to get energy efficient and participate as a community towards building a clean, green society. Major hotels, malls and some restaurants in city too switched off their façade lights to show solidarity.

Gunbir Singh, chairperson, WWF Punjab said, “Earth Hour has become the single largest celebration worldwide when humanity gets together and pledges to conserve Mother Earth. We as citizens need reiteration of our commitment to responsibility ever so often so that we remember that only a clean environment will ensure the health of our children.”
