The Department of Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) organised two lectures on the importance of sports nutrition and period of training for the sports performance here recently.
The lectures also dwelt upon high quality compounding of manufactured sterile drugs.
As many as 82 students attended the lectures at the seminar hall of the department.
Professor Klause-Peter Herm and Dr Andreas Herm, both from the Institute of Exercise and Sports Anthropology, Germany, delivered the lectures.
Prof Herm emphasised the importance of sports nutrition and period of training for the sports performance.
He said the sports nutrition played a significant role in raising excellence of sportspersons.
He added that the training protocol, which includes the training period and nutrition, was different for male and female players.
On the occasion, food values of different nutrients were also discussed as per the requirements of sportspersons.
Dr Andreas said the contents of medicine were checked at various stages during the manufacturing process.
Sports players needed to be more conscious while using medicines so that they were aware of their effect on their efficiency and could lead to a positive dope test, Dr Andreas added.
