Members of various farmer associations staged a protest in front of the office of PSPCL’s Chief Engineer here on Monday

The protesters demanded minimum 16-hour power supply for tubewells in the coming paddy transplantation season and 24-hour power supply in villages.

The protesters also took out a rally in the city and raised slogans against the state government and PSPCL.

Dr Satnam Singh Ajnala, president of the Jamhoori Kisan Sabha said at present, they were getting only four-hour power supply daily for the irrigation purpose. He said farmers would not be able to irrigate their paddy nurseries due to a shortage of power.

Rattan Singh Randhawa, vice-president of the Jamhoori Kisan Sabha, said all defunct electricity transformer should be replaced immediately.

The farmers also demanded the Voluntary Disclosure Scheme be initiated. They also demands that the fines imposed on them be reduced.
