Five booked for clash in jail

AMRITSAR: Two group of jail inmates entered in a clash on the jail premises on Friday.

Two group of jail inmates entered in a clash on the jail premises on Friday. The incident came to light when the jail authorities lodged a complaint with the police and a case was registered on Saturday evening against five persons.

The Gate Hakima police have registered a cross-case against both groups. One faction was led by Gurmeet Singh of Pahuwind village (Tarn Taran). He was accompanied by Sandeep Singh and Gurdhian Singh, a convict. The other group includes Ranjit Singh of Tarn Taran and Amarjit Singh of Bhikhiwind.

Following the complaint, a case under Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), IPC, and Sections 42 and 52-A of the Prisoners Act.

According to the police, a minor argument turned into a brawl and both groups attacked and hurled abuses at each other. Jail staff intervened and got them separated. A couple of them sustained minor injuries.

Taking serious note of the spat, the Jail Superintendent lodged a complaint with the police while stating that creating law and order problem would not be tolerated.
