Gang of snatchers busted, 2 held

The rural police claimed to have busted a gang of snatchers with the arrest of its two members involved in multiple snatching incidents in the Border area here on Friday.

The rural police claimed to have busted a gang of snatchers with the arrest of its two members involved in multiple snatching incidents in the Border area here on Friday. Police officials claimed that the arrested accused have close links with Gangster Gopi Ghanshampuria.

The accused have been identified as Paramjit Singh, alias Pamma, a resident of Khanpur, who is a cousin of gangster Gopi Ghanshampuria, and Kulwant Singh, a resident of Bullowal.

The police were searching the accused in a case of robbery in Beas in which the accused robbed Rs 2.5 lakh from the victim at gunpoint on June 7. The police recovered the car, which was used in the crime, from the accused.

They have been facing five separate criminal cases at various police stations of the region. The accused had snatched a bag containing Rs 6 lakh from a woman in February at Batala. They have snatched Rs 45,000 from another woman in April at Beas.

On May 30, they snatched Rs 35,000 from a shopkeeper and injured him. On June 7, the accused snatched a bag containing Rs 2.5 lakh from a brick-kiln owner. Police officials claimed that three members of the gang Sukhraj Singh, alias Kala, a resident of Bhaini Ram Dayal; Gurwinder Singh, alias Gurinder, and Jodhvir Singh, alias Jodha, of Gajiwal are still absconding.
