AMRITSAR:In a shocking incident, a Class XII girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her classroom at a private school in Rani Ka Bagh area here today.

In a shocking incident, a Class XII girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her classroom at a  private school in Rani Ka Bagh area here today. Depression is said to be the reason behind the extreme step.

The incident sent a shock waves among teachers and students at the school. The incident came to light when a peon went to clean the room and found the doors closed. When she forcefully pushed a door, she found Simran Kaur (18) hanging. She raised an alarm and the school authorities took her to a private hospital where she was declared dead.

The deceased’s mother, Manjinder Kaur, along with her sister and relatives reached the hospital after receiving the information.

Sushil Kumar, SHO Cantonment police station, said the family suspected no foul play. No suicide note was found from her bag. The police have initiated action under criminal procedure code.

He said examination at the school was going on, so the children left at 12 noon and were waiting for the school transport downstairs. 

Simran came downstairs, placed her bag and again went upstairs to take the extreme step. Her father had died seven years ago. She was depressed, the SHO added.
