The District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum has directed Housefed to refund the excess amount paid, if any, by a local resident for settlement of a loan case, besides paying Rs 2,000 as compensation and Rs 1,000 as litigation expenses.

Earlier, Dharminder Singh, a resident of Dialpura village, near Ajnala, had filed a complaint against Housefed, stating that he had taken a loan of Rs 2 lakh and he had already returned the loan amount along with interest through instalments.

He said after paying the loan amount, he approached the opposite party for issuance of a clearance certificate, but he was denied the same on the pretext that he had to pay more dues.

The complainant alleged that on checking all receipts, he found that he had already paid excess amount. He again approached the opposite party and shown the receipts and requested it to issue the clearance certificate and return the amount which was paid in excess by him.

The forum during the hearing of the case observed that the allegations made by the complainant were correct.

It stated that the complainant was also entitled to refund the amount, if paid in excess, to the opposite party, besides compensation and litigation expenses.
