Kamboh police book nine for fraud

AMRITSAR: The Kamboh police have booked nine persons, including two women, for allegedly duping a local resident of Rs 12.50 lakh on the pretext of investing his money in a scheme, which will ensure handsome returns.

The Kamboh police have booked nine persons, including two women, for allegedly duping a local resident of Rs 12.50 lakh on the pretext of investing his money in a scheme, which will ensure handsome returns.

Those booked were identified as Sukhchain Singh, his wife Sarabjit Kaur, Navinder Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, his wife Paramjit Kaur, Mahabir Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Gursewak Singh and Kuldeep Singh, all residents of Malawala Khas village.

Kanwaljit Kaur, the wife of Harjit Singh, a resident of Khairabad village, stated to the police that on December 2016, the accused lured her to invest in the schemes of various private firms and took Rs 12.50 lakh for it. She alleged that the accused neither returned the money, nor invested it in any scheme.

According to police authorities, the matter was first enquired into by the Economic Offences Wing and later the District Authority’s legal opinion was sought in this regard. The DA opined that a case should be registered, following which a case under Sections 420 and 120-B, IPC, was registered against the suspects. Further investigations were underway while no arrest has been made so far.
