As an effort to collect literally work done by various Punjabi woman play writers, a city-based theatre personality, Kewal Dhaliwal, has come up with a Punjabi book titled “Sheehanina Da Rangmanch”.

The book has 464 pages and is a collection of plays written by Punjabi female play writers along with their life history and details. Most of the plays included in the book are women centric plays.

The book includes writers such as Indu Bala and Dr Manjeet Pal Kaur. The book has been published by Punjab Sangeet Natak Academy.

Talking about the motive behind the book, writer Kewal Dhaliwal said: “The book is a tribute to all women writers. The idea is to create a collection about these women writers. For example, there is a play about ‘Heer Ranjha’ written from the perspective of the female. The aim is to let people know about rich writings penned down by Punjab.”

“There are a large number of women writers who are not so popular. I wanted to bring their work in front of masses. I have dedicated the book to veteran Punjabi stage actor Uma Gurbaksh. I hope it motivates writers and theatre artists,” he added.

The book which has about 60 women writers was collated by Kewal Dharilwal in six months. They are the unsung heroes, he added. The book is available at Virsa Vihar complex and is priced at Rs300.
