Land dispute turns ugly, couple thrashed

AMRITSAR: A couple was injured when a group of armed persons barged into their house over a land dispute at Kaonke village here late last evening. The victims were identified as Baljit Kaur and her husband Balwinder Singh of Kaonke village.

A couple was injured when a group of armed persons barged into their house over a land dispute at Kaonke village here late last evening.

The victims were identified as Baljit Kaur and her husband Balwinder Singh of Kaonke village.

The accused were identified as Palwinder Singh, his brother Gulzar Singh, Harwinderpal Kaur and Jasbir Kaur, wife of Gulzar Singh, all residents of Bagriyan village, besides around 10 unidentified persons. They were charged with attempt to murder, causing grievous hurt, molestation, criminal trespass, hurting religious sentiments and criminal conspiracy besides other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Baljit Kaur stated to the police that they were present in the house when the accused barged in and thrashed them brutally. She alleged that the accused ransacked their house, adding that her husband’s turban was toppled by them and that they also tried to strangle her.

Sub-Inspector Dhanwinder Singh, the investigating officer in the case, said a land dispute was going on between the two parties, which was the reason behind the incident.
