Former SAD minister Bikram Singh Majithia has threatened to gherao the Mattewal police station in the Majitha constituency on Monday. He accused the police of shielding Congress workers who had allegedly thrashed and stripped a Dalit SAD worker, Kashmir Singh, of Bagga village.

Majithia also presented the snapshots from a social networking site in which Kashmir Singh can be seen only in his underwear, posted allegedly by the accused, Rinku, a Congress leader’s nephew from the village. The incident had occurred on April 29.

The victim’s family stated that they were earlier manhandled on April 17 after which they had got registered a complaint at police helpline 181. “Instead of taking action against the accused, the police revealed this information to the accused who again attacked us on April 29,” said the victim’s wife.

The photos posted on social media had a caption in which the accused used “derogatory” remarks on the caste of the victim.

Addressing a press conference, Majithia said, “Even the SHO, who is an ASI by rank, has been appointed at the behest of Congress leaders. We will also approach the court as the ASI’s appointment to the position of the SHO is in violation of the rules.”

Majithia said SAD workers were being targeted to avenge the defeat of Congress leader in the Assembly elections. He said the police were requested to book the accused for manhandling Kashmir Singh.

“If the case is not registered by Monday, we will gherao Mattewal police station,” said Majithia, adding that instead of taking action against the accused, an FIR against Kashmir Singh was registered and he was kept in police custody “illegally” for three days.
