The Amritsar rural police have booked two persons for allegedly defrauding a number of pea farmers.

The case was registered following an investigation carried out by the economics offences wing and orders issued by the SSP, Amritsar rural.

The accused were identified as Prem Singh and his son Pawandeep Singh, both residents of Taragarh Talawa village, falling under the Jandiala Guru police station area. They are yet to be arrested.

Saroop Singh, one of the victims and a resident of Saidolahal village, told the police the accused were commission agents and they procured their pea crop in April this year. The accused handed over a cheque for Rs 3 lakh to him which later bounced.

Similarly, cheques worth Rs 80,000 and Rs 1.85 lakh issued to Baljinder Singh of Saidolehal village and Iqbal Singh of Chatiwind, respectively, bounced. Tarsem Singh, the investigating officer, said the accused had defrauded a number of persons. However, in the case of these three complainants, the accused had issued wrong cheques to them, which bounced and therefore they were trapped.
