Amritsar March 25

The tender floated by the Municipal Corporation to install smart bins in the city has failed to materialise. Officials of the MC Health Department said two separate companies had shown interest to install the smart bins, but their officials entered in some tussle. Finally, the MC decided to cancel the tender.

With this move, the smart bins are now a distant dream for residents.

The Municipal Corporation had installed two smart bins at Majitha road and Hakima Gate under the pilot project. The MC had floated the tender to install 64 large bins at 32 strategic locations in the city. The scheme was to turn the entire garbage lifting and dumping into a mechanical affair under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. These bins have a high dumping capacity and have a lid with an attached thick and durable bag, which can store a minimum of 1,800 kg garbage.

Dr Ajay Kanwar Municipal Health Officer said, “The tenders were not materialised. The companies have been putting allegations each other. Senior officials decided to cancel the tender.”
