MC Commissioner Sonali Giri said, “As per the strict directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court against unauthorized construction in the walled city, the MC has written to the PSPCL to disconnect connections of 13 illegal buildings. tns

Handbag with cell phone,  Rs 45,000 stolen 

Amritsar: A woman, who had come to the PITEX that concluded on Sunday at Ranjit Avenue, told the police some unidentified person stole her handbag. The Civil Lines police have registered a case against undefined miscreants in this regard. Complainant Simmy Rana, a visitor to the PITEX, said the bag contained a mobile phone, Rs 4,500 and ATM card. A case under Section 379 of the IPC has been registered. tns

15 booked for firing on Sarpanch 

Tarn Taran: Former Sarpanch of Gaggobua village Paramjit Singh along with 14 others have been booked in an attempt to murder case by the Chabal police last evening. The incident occurred five days back in Gaggobua village, 20 kilometers from here. The ongoing tussle between two groups in the village was said to be root cause of the incident. The police have booked the accused under section 307, 323, 324, 506, 148,149 of IPC and section 25, 27, 54, 59 of Arms Act. Besides Paramjit Singh, nine other accused have been identified as Sadha Singh, Navdeep Singh, Shinderpal Singh, Gurwant Singh, Kashmir Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Yodhbir Singh, Charanjit Singh and Satnam Singh. None of the them have been arrested yet. The police said, the accused armed with firearms opened fire at the family of Balbir Singh, Sarpanch of Adda Gaggobua, when the family was watching the ongoing development works in the village. Balbir Singh, his son Hargopal Singh and Rachhpal Singh were injured in the firing. OC

650 patients examined at medical camp

Amritsar: A free medical camp was organised by the Health Department at Nikke Ghuman village in Gurdaspur on Tuesday. SMO Kalanaur Dr Lakhwinder Singh Athwal, along with a team of specialist doctors, examined around 650 patients and gave free medicines to them. Dr Athwal said, “During the camp, we have identified 20 patients who need to undergo eye surgeries, which will be conducted free of cost in the next week. The department will also provide free implants to the patients. The department also issued a disability certificate to 15 patients at the camp. Despite heavy rain, we received an overwhelming response from the public.” TNS

Students shine in gymnastics

Amritsar: Students of Spring Dale Senior School, Amritsar, performed well in the 63rd Punjab School State Gymnastics Championship held in Gurdaspur and CBSE Nationals Gymnastics Championship held in Yamuna Nagar, Haryana. Gursirat Kaur, a budding gymnast from the school, won five gold medals in ribbon, clubs, ball and team events. She bagged a silver medal in the hoop event. She was declared the first best gymnast in the 63rd Punjab School State Gymnastics Championship.  Sarpreet Kaur Sidhu clinched three gold medals in team, hoop and ribbon events. She also bagged three silver medals in ball and clubs events. Sarpreet was declared the second best all-round gymnast in school state championship. Kulnoor Kaur bagged a gold medal in the team event and a bronze medal in the ball event in this championship. TNS

DAV student excels in cycling c’ship

Amritsar: The SGFI School National Level Cycling Championship was held at IGI Stadium, New Delhi, from November 27 to 30. Diljot Singh, a student of Class XII, from DAV Public School, Lawrence Road , Amritsar, bagged a bronze medal in Time Trail event. He won a silver medal in the team pursuit event. TNS
