Employees of the Municipal Corporation here staged a protest today against the non-payment of salaries to them. The employees have already announced to observe a ‘black Diwali’ as a mark of protest.
In a protest held here today, the MC employees stated they had not received the salaries for the month of September so far. A leader of the Sanjhi Sangharsh Committee of the employees, spearheading the protest, Harjinder Singh Walia said, “The employees, mostly safai sevaks, have no money to celebrate the festival. The Local Bodies Minister belongs to the city and the city’s Diwali celebrations are world famous, but employees have no money.”
He said the employees’ delegations had met senior officials on various occasions, but the salaries had not been released so far. “On the one hand, the government is spending so much on advertisements and on the other hand, its employees are not being paid salaries. The government needs to set its priorities right,” he said. Walia said all employees would observe a ‘black Diwali’ tomorrow as a mark of protest against the government.
