MC to build zones for vendors

Following directions of the Supreme Court, the Municipal Corporation (MC) conducted a survey of vendors in the city. The company hired by the MC completed the survey recently. According to survey report, there are a total of 16,275 vendors in the city. Now, the company will certify all these vendors and issue smart identity cards to them.

As per the Supreme Court guidelines, the company sought information under the 29 fields from every vendor. They provided personal details including name, parents’ name, besides vending, local and permanent addresses in the survey.

The company also identified mode and type of vending that hawkers were involved. Vendors who were selling products while constantly on move and those carrying out business from one place were mentioned separately.

Company employees also collected information about the time of their working and income. Now, the MC staff is identifying locations to relocate vendors.

Jaswinder Singh, estate Officer of the MC, said, “As per the guidelines we will construct vending zones in all wards of the city. We are searching for locations to construct zones. We will try to establish vending zones on priority. It will take two more months to shift vendors from roads to these zones”.

The MC paid Rs 180 for every vending unit to Kiran Software Solution, the company to which the survey work was outsourced. The city has been facing frequent traffic chaos due to large number of vendors in the city.

Earlier, the Municipal Corporation used to provide a registration number to every vendor. Presently, there is no check of the civic body on vendors.
