After staying off roads for five days, the services of metro buses running under the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) resumed yesterday.
Office-bearers of the metro bus service claim that they have received funds to buy fuel from the depot of Punjab Roadways. The buses went off roads due to the non-payment of fuel bills on October 9.
Harbans Singh, in-charge of the metro bus services, said, “We have received funds to fuel bills. The bus services have been restored yesterday.” These buses went off road on Monday as the Punjab Roadways suspended the supply of fuel. Company officials did not get the funds for fuel from Chandigarh.
As per the agreement between the company and the government, the buses were supposed to get fuel from the roadways depot till the metro bus terminal was made functional.
Earlier, the roadways used to supply fuel without getting advance money but due to the non-payment of bills, now the former takes advance money from the metro bus authorities for fuel.
Now, there are 10 buses running on two routes - from the railway station to India Gate and from the railway station to Verka. However, the company did not release the salaries of its employees, which is pending for the past four months.
