Baljinder Singh, a resident of Jandiala Guru, allegedly committed suicide by consuming celphos tablets here yesterday. He was taken to a private hospital where he died late last evening.

The police have registered a case under Section 306, IPC, against around 20 persons.

Amandeep Singh, son of the deceased, stated to the police that his father had taken Rs 12 lakh on loan for some domestic work from the accused at 3 per cent interest for a year. He said he used to give Rs 36,000 as interest to the accused every month. He said on March 4, he along with his father returned Rs 12 lakh to the accused.
