Amritsar: A two-day national workshop on “Radiation detection and measurement (RDM-2017)” began here today. The workshop is being organised by the Department of Physics and Electronics at Hindu College in collaboration with the Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and Allied Scientist (IANCAS).

Amritsar: A two-day national workshop on “Radiation detection and measurement (RDM-2017)” began here today. The workshop is being organised by the Department of Physics and Electronics at Hindu College in collaboration with the Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and Allied Scientist (IANCAS). Dr RK Mahajan, dean, college development council, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) and Dr Shyam Kumar, dean, Kurshertara University, were the key note speakers. Senior scientist, Dr PC Kalsi, and Dr Sarbjeet Singh from Babha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai, besides Prof Dr BS Bajwa of the GNDU were the resource persons of the workshop. More than 50 faculty members and research scholars from various colleges and universities of Punjab and adjoining states are attending the workshop. Dr Mahajan explained effects of radiations in various fields, including agriculture, food industry and health. Dr PK Sharma, Principal, Hindu College, extended a warm welcome to all the participants and highlighted achievements of the institution during the inaugural ceremony. In his address, he expressed hope that researchers would learn new things. Dr Vishal Arora, convener of the workshop, explained the need of precise measurement of radiation and briefly introduced objectives to be covered during the workshop. Sudhir Mahajan, chairman, governing council, Hindu College, wished for success of the workshop. Dr Vijay Kumar presented a vote of thanks. — TNS
