Amritsar, August 14

A city-based NGO, Voice of Amritsar, carried out a plantation drive at Government Elementary School in Pandori Waraich village today.

A total of 100 saplings were planted in the barren area of the school and along the boundary wall. The drive was supported by Col RS Padda, CO of Punjab 1 Battalion of National Cadet Corps (NCC).

About 100 NCC girl cadets took part in the drive. Seenu Arora, president, Voice of Amritsar, said, “We need to motivate more schoolchildren to come forward and to plant more trees.”

“Over 1.5 lakh trees were cut in Punjab in the past eight months according to the NGT of India. Efforts are required to maintain the green cover.” said Indu Aurora, a member of the NGO.

It was the first time that Voice of Amritsar had collaborated with the NCC unit of Punjab 1 Battalion and would not be the last one, said Rajdeep Dhillon, an ex-Army man. — TNS
