NGO to run statewide campaign against drugs

Poornima Verma, president, ‘Punjab Bachao, Desh Bachao Nasha Mukti Andolan, an NGO, in a press conference said here today that the organisation was initiating a statewide campaign from August this year.

She said the campaign would focus on visiting drug affected areas and help residents in checking the menace.

She said the campaign would also act as a pressure group that would take up the issue with the Centre and state governments.

“The state known as the food bowl of the country is now going through a critical phase and a large number of its youngsters are addicted to drugs,” she said.

Verma said women would be roped in the campaign so that they could act as a watchdog of society in their respective homes.

“Rural women would have to be empowered for the purpose as they are the worst sufferers in case a family member is addicted to drugs,” she said.

The organisation would also set up its units in rural areas to spread the message effectively, she said.
