Some literary persons have been making efforts to marginalize the barrier of script between Eastern and Western Punjab. A new publication house in the city has come up with an objective to provide Pakistani books to Punjabi readers in Gurmukhi script.

In its first effort, Sachal Publication released its two books at a function at Guru Ramdas Group of Institutes in Pandher village. The book “Akhra Sir Sanyog Vikhan” is documentation of interactions of intellectuals on writings of Sufi and Quissa writers. Sandeep Singh from Sachal Publication said he personally attended interactions of intellectuals at house of Najm Hosain Syed, a writer and poet.

Interactions were penned by Huma Safdar, a writer from Lahore. The other book “Rang Rangan Vich”, also released on the occasion, is a play written by Najm Hosain Syed.

Sandip said, “We have started this publication to provide translations of world class literature in Punjabi. In the first series, we have come with two books of transliteration from Sahmukhi to Gurmukhi.” The books were transliterated by Dr Parmajit Singh.

Meanwhile, a seminar was organised by Folklore Research Academy to mark the International Mother Tongue Day. Sumail Sidhu was the keynote speaker on the occasion. — TNS
