Amritsar, June 14
A total of nine blood donation camps were organised in the city to mark World Blood Donor Day on Thursday. A total of 415 units of blood were collected and the process was going on till the filing of this report.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kamaldeep Singh Sangha said, “Till 4:30 pm, 415 volunteers had donated blood.” Lok Sabha MP Gurjit Singh Aujla also donated blood at one such camp organised at Trilium Mall.
The DC also thanked the organisations — Your Blood can Save Life, Association of Blood Donors Society, Khalsa Blood Donate Unity, Humanity for Ever, Emergency Blood Donors, Being Human Blood Donation Society, Sri Guru Ram Das Seva Sabha, Knowledge Villa Education Welfare Society, Aasra Welfare Society, Voice of Amritsar and others for extending help in the camps.
In the camp at Government Medical College, organised by the Voice of Amritsar and Punjab Medical and Dental Teachers Association, students, faculty members and volunteers donated 120 units. VOA patron Seenu Arora said, “The students of the college donated blood voluntarily and enthusiastically.”
Dr Rakesh Sharma of college said even a youth suffering from spinal injury came to donate blood during the camp. “Such experiences make you believe that people are concerned about others. It was heartening that people in such large numbers donated blood,” he said.
Assistant Commissioner (General) Subhash Kumar and Assistant Commissioner (Grievances) Alka Kalia felicitated the donors with certificates.
Members of Adharrat, a social organisation, including Sanjay Bali, Prateet Kaur amd Karam Saluja planned and coordinated the entire event including collaborations with commercial establishments to offer discounts and gifts to blood donors.
