Representatives of Paramedical Staff Union today met Dr Avinash Kumar, Director, Research and Medical Education in Chandigarh and apprised him of the problems being faced by them.

Representatives from Amritsar, Prem Chand and Narinder Singh, said the issues concerning promotions and various types of allowances were discussed. The association said the designation of laboratory attendant should be changed to medical laboratory technician, diploma holder lab attendants should be promoted and the lab attendants should be considered fit for clerical posts provided they clear typing test.

They also demanded five per cent risk allowance, regularisation of contractual employees and cash uniform allowance for class four workers among other demands.

Narinder Singh said the employees had also demanded the opening of a bank branch inside Government Medical College. He said the issue of irregular disbursal of salaries to mess workers was also discussed. “The director assured us that our demands will be taken up with the officials concerned and necessary action will be taken soon,” he added.
