Powerloom labourers demand wage hike

Amritsar, June 21

Powerloom labourers under the banner of the All India Trade Union Congress and Centre of Indian Trade Union held a demonstration in Beri Gate area here today.

They stage the demonstration in favour of their demand for wage hike. Earlier, they also staged agitations but powerloom owners did not pay any heed towards their demand. Now, they have gone on an indefinite strike.

While addressing a rally, Comrade Vijay Mishra and Amarjit Singh Asal alleged that despite submitting various memorandums to the officials concerned for a hike in salary, nothing had been done in this regard. They said, “The labourers will continue their strike until their demand is fulfilled. The mill owners have been violating the labour laws by forcing the labourers to work 15 to 16 hours every day.” — TNS
